Born in Philadelphia, Charlotte Greenwood was notorious for her astounding high kicks. In school she was bullied by her classmates and teachers for being tall and awkward. She credits one teacher, Miss Newman, for being the only one to encourage her for her entertaining talents and personality. She went on to work in New York theatres and traveling vaudeville creating many bits out of clumsiness. Eventually she made it to Hollywood, staring in many comedic talkies.
